Cards squeeze past D-Backs
Chris Carpenter pulled into a tie for the Major League lead with his 13th victory as he dominated the Diamondbacks for eight innings. The Cardinals pushed the winning run across on David Eckstein's suicide squeeze bunt in the top of the ninth inning.

Javier Vazquez dropped his fourth straight decision despite tossing nine splendid innings against one of baseball's top offenses. The D-Backs right-hander allowed only three hits, but a pair of bunts in the ninth by the Cards provided the winning margin.
